Richard Umbrecht

Richard Umbrecht is currently a co-founder and partner of New Province Partners, LLC, an asset-based investment, advisory and asset management firm headquartered in Greenwich, Connecticut, and has over 38 years of experience in asset-based and international finance, as both an advisor and a lawyer.


Prior to forming New Province Partners, Mr. Umbrecht was a member (1995-2008) of the asset-finance advisory firm Babcock & Brown Limited (an Australian public company) and its predecessor, Babcock & Brown LP, where he was most recently Co-Head of the Global Structured Finance Group, and Head of the US Corporate Finance Group. He was also a member of Babcock & Brown Limited’s Executive Committee.


Prior to joining Babcock & Brown, Mr. Umbrecht was a tax partner with the firm of Morgan, Lewis and Bockius, where he worked from 1983 to 1995. At Morgan Lewis, Mr. Umbrecht specialized in asset-based and international finance, including leveraged leasing, debt finance, cross border leasing, partnership transactions and international tax planning. While at Morgan Lewis, Mr. Umbrecht was also an adjunct faculty member at Villanova University Law School where he taught various courses in the Graduate Tax Program in the areas of Corporate Taxation and International Tax Planning.


Mr. Umbrecht received his B.S, summa cum laude, from Widener University (Management and Economics) (1980) and his J.D., summa cum laude, from Villanova University School of Law (1983) , where he was a member and Editor in Chief of the Law Review. He is the author of numerous tax related articles and publications on leasing and international taxation.
